These points are always 180 degrees apart and are across from each other in our natal chart, and with aspects to other natal planets (show personal journey of karma and destiny), and transits (themes of the collective focus), these nodes communicate messages about our past life and our life purpose. When stress, anger, or an imbalance happens, we may be playing out our negative traits of our North Node. A time to listen, gain understanding, and accept the lesson that is being shown to us.
By overcoming our shadow side, we can embrace a more intentional, holistic way of dealing with what life throws our way. Our North Node defines our karmic calling, asking us to step out of our place of comfort, and create new skills, traits, and thought processes that our soul is not used to absorbing.
Our South Node mirrors our past-life lessons, innate skills or talents and our collective roots. Hanging out in our South Node for too long and leaning into its energy can lead to a feeling of being stuck or stagnant. Our North Node wants a more conscious drive, pushing us to expand our horizons for personal growth.
They work together to form a karmic axis that shows our need to accept our spiritual growth and learn our deeper purpose. To illustrate the authenticity of these node placements …
Let’s dive into my natal North and South Nodes.
My North Node is in the 4th house (home, roots, security) ruled by the Moon (home, nurturer, vulnerable) in the sign of Cancer (feel, healer, emotional.) And my South Node is in the 10th house (career, reputation, achievement) ruled by Saturn (discipline, life lessons, perseverance) in the sign of Capricorn (ambitious, disciplined, detached.)
This placement is known to be karmically challenging. And believe me, It has been.
North Node in Cancer – This nod to my North Node began after writing my book, and my studies into astrology. I am learning to embrace my feminine, be open to my emotions and how to process them (key life lesson), and pay attention to my needs and feelings, not as a duty or a practical way to address a situation. I am nurturing myself and lovingly address myself and others. When others offer to help, I learn it’s OK to accept this offer. Letting go of my challenging survivor mode to embrace spiritual growth has been revealed in so many capacities. Being more attentive to my intuition and gut feelings, instead of logic and reason, has enhanced my spiritual growth.
I am having to learn to make sacrifices in my relationships in order to meet other’s needs. Am I afraid of relationships? Maybe. My intention is to connect and nurture relations with family members and loved ones. This attention to feelings and empathy from others will support my achievements in a more flowing, fluid way.
For years, I was living in the negativity of my Capricorn South Node.
Stuffed my emotions
Ignored my feelings
Looked for external validation
Wanted to control everything & everyone
Perceived as bossy, cold & detached
My South Node placement in Capricorn existence gives me a strong sense of responsibility, practicality and ambition. I am a hard worker, disciplined, and have a deep desire for structure and stability. My ambitious tendencies would always lead to the achievement of success at any cost, and was probably perceived as stubborn or self-absorbed. My practical realistic approach and decision making based upon logic and rational thinking may appear as if I am detached or unemotional. My rigid discipline to set goals and work hard to achieve them can appear rigid and inflexible.
Oh yes, for years, I have lived in my detached Capricorn world. My desire for stability with a career, a secure home and family life led me to overreliance on structure, routine, anger and disappointment.

My continued study of astrology and the Lunar Nodes guides me to embrace my strengths and master my potential limitations. Owning my natural tendencies towards my ambitions, practicality and discipline can support my work towards a balanced approach to my life that includes both career aspirations and personal relationships.
